Writing a project proposal

Even though PhD candidates usually are not very much involved in writing project proposals, there are some opportunities that are worthwhile to consider. E.g., you might want to apply for an exchange program, short research sabbatical, or new research equipment. Also, you might want to prepare a follow-up research project, in the shape of a Post-doc. Writing a project proposal is laborious work, but with the right approach it might even be manageable for you. In this hands-on workshop, we work on a project proposal that might be relevant for you. Topics include::

  • Opportunities for research proposals for PhD candidates
  • Determining the purpose of your proposal
  • Thinking about broader societal relevance and outreach
  • Writing a good abstract
  • Acquiring co-financing
  • Realistic planning and budget
